March 19, 2020

Dear Families:

Due to the increasing concern regarding employee presence in the workplace, I am announcing a reduction in the business hours for all Lucas Local buildings. We educators have a passion and duty to provide for our students. At the same time, I know you share my concern for the well-being and safety of our school employees. I commend you all as parents. The innovation and creativity being developed on a daily basis is amazing.

Starting tomorrow, Friday, March 20, our hours of operation will be 9:00am-12:00pm. Student meals may be picked up from 11:00am-12:00pm.

For next week and moving forward, district hours of on-site operation will be Mondays and Thursdays from 9:00am-12:00pm. The evening student meal distribution is cancelled; however, the 11:00am-12:00pm window will be available for pickup. The pickup procedures were prescribed in my letter earlier this week.

Our teachers will only have access to buildings during these same aforementioned hours of operation. We appreciate your understanding in relation to their limited availability for the exchanging of classroom materials. Teachers will continue to work remotely to provide students with feedback and learning opportunities. I strongly encourage you to utilize email as your primary form of communication with school staff. For your convenience, a list of staff email addresses will be posted on our school website tomorrow. Before contacting principals, I would recommend the teachers being the first line of communication. If a phone call is necessary, our offices will be open from 9:00am-12:00pm on Mondays and Thursdays too.

I am a parent myself, so I can appreciate the new learning environment in your homes right now. Our staff is here to assist you, your children, and your family in any way we can. Again, we appreciate your understanding as we reduce our on-site hours of operation. While the current health pandemic continues to evolve, we will continue looking for creative ways to enhance our virtual availability.

Stay safe and stay tuned for more information as it develops.

Sincerely,

Brad Herman
